Mr. LaTroy J. Brinkley. Born to Jerry King and the late Joyce Ann Brinkley is a 2000 Graduate of Virginia State University with a B.A. in Political Science. During his time at Virginia State University, Troy, as his friends call him, held many leadership roles in many organizations.

After graduating from VSU, Troy continued his education at Hampton University enrolling in the MBA & Community Agency Counseling Program. His education just didn’t stop there. During that time he also attended New Horizons Career and Technical Educational Center in Hampton VA to become a licensed Cosmetologist.

While at Virginia State University, LaTroy was elected as the President of the World Renown Award Winning Virginia State University Gospel Chorale. He also held the position as Assistant Director to Ms. Sherlita Fox and soon after became Director for several years. During his time of directorship, the choir toured in the United States as well as Europe. Many competitions were won during his time with the choir. Post graduation, LaTroy sang with Kenneth Shields and the Tri City Singers and became a member of First Baptist Church South Hill, Chesapeake Va, where he was the Praise and Worship Leader and Assistant to Patricia Knight, Director of Choirs. Expanding his musical talents, LaTroy was selected to be a member of the GMWA National Praise and Worship Team. From 2006-2010, he was the Vice President of Dominion Records who produced the Virginia Gospel Mass Choir. Soon after that recording, LaTroy was the project manager for the CD recording for Pastor Suzie Wright. LaTroy has been the guest clinician at many churches for music seminars and workshops. As of September 2016, LaTroy is the Director of the Virginia State University Alumni Choir which currently has over 150 members.

As a community leader in the City of Suffolk VA, Troy held a peace rally in the Summer of 2013 as a call to end street violence in the city after the outcome of the Travon Martin Case with more than 700 attendees. After noticing the influence that Troy has among his peers and community, Vice Mayor Charles Brown appointed Troy to be a part of the Youth Advisory/Substance Abuse Council. In addition, Troy has also served on the City of Suffolk’s Clean Community Commission, Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee, Commissioner for Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority and has partnered with Pruden Vocational Center as a mentor/work study trainer for cosmetology students. Currently he is a Board member for The Salvation Army and Dress for Success. Troy was very instrumental in the restoration of the Locker room/gym facility at Lakeland High School. After graduating from Virginia State University, he continued his education at New Horizons Technical Center where he obtained his license for Cosmetology. He is the owner of Serendipity Hair Salon, and the Executive Hair Stylist for the Steve Harvey Morning Show Neighborhood Awards and many other events. As a resident of the City of Suffolk Virginia, he was asked by the Career and Technical Education Department to be a member and mentor for students who were interested in pursuing non-traditional careers. Being a member of this organization opened many doors which allowed him to pour into the lives of young people who are not necessarily four-year college students. Many of them have sought a trade and are living very successful lives. He has been able help implement programs for the local youth, help benefit 466 families in Suffolk/Isle of Wight County which reside in 5 multi family communities, help aide 1,021 recipients of Housing Choice Voucher rental assistance, 12 intellectually disabled families with intermediary care with programs for residential economic uplift and capital improvement projects. Along with the assistance of the Board of Commissioners, he was able to offer community development endeavors that benefit residents with rehabilitation assistance to homeowners, homebuyer education, and transform existing neighborhoods through the Choice Neighborhood initiative. His commitment to better, healthier neighborhoods, lead him to many conferences where he assisted the Commonwealth of Virginia with the issuance of a Tax Exempt Revenue Bond totaling $12 million dollars for the construction of 236 multi-family housing units. As a hands on person, he often assist in touring the communities during inclement weather and well-check to ensure the safety of all residents. Along with his family, they have partnered with the Western Tidewater Community Service Board where they host a summer camp for children who live at or below poverty level teaching them life skills, fun activities, and ensuring that they have a balanced breakfast and lunch that they would not receive during the summer when school is not in session with the help of sponsors. Recently, his business partnered with VIVA (Virgin Islanders in Virginia) Hurricane Irma Relief initiative. To date, they have collected over 9,000 pounds of non perishable foods, water, clothes, goods for infants and health/beauty aides. To date, they are continuously working with this group to ensure the Virgin Island citizens receive the help they need. As of June, 2019, LaTroy serves as the Vice President of the Franklin-Southampton Alumni Va Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Incorporated.

Troy is the owner of Serendipity...The salon, in Suffolk VA where he is a master stylist. Currently he serves as a part of the Influence Circle for Soft Sheen Carson/L’Oreal. LaTroy has worked diligently with his mentor Mr. Johnnie Wright, hairstylist to the First Lady Michelle Obama and is also the Executive hairstylist for the Steve Harvey Neighborhood Awards. His resume of clients, home and abroad range from beautiful ladies that serve us all with their traditional careers to entertainments most stylish and influential celebrities. Troy always tells his clients “Invest in your own hair, Its the crown you never take off”.

He is the father of one son, Demond and two beautiful daughters, Demeasha and Demiyah.
